I make no bones about that I think Java is massively overhyped, overblown. It is a solution looking for a problem from the previous decade, which really didn’t exist back then either. But today we are stuck with its 32 bit legacy. Just try to run it on a 64 bit machine in a 64 bit web browser. Remember, as you fail to do this, or require some arcane invocation or thunking layer to handle this, that it is, in theory, write once-run everywhere. Keep that in mind as you watch this artifact take down the web 2.0 stateful browser screens that sadly happen to be in the same process space as the wayward java applet/plugin.
