Designed to fail ...

I have a saying I like to tell people: things that are designed to fail, often do. I run into this day in and day out. Bad cluster designs, bad storage designs, bad network designs. Poor choices in all of the above. I still can’t get over the two 128 port switches coupled together with a single gigabit uplink. Or the multiple terabytes hidden behind a 50 MB/s bandwidth wall. Or the 32 bit OS used on a 64 bit machine because the admin didn’t trust 64 bit OSes. I see failures in design, in implementation, etc. I see train wrecks while they are in the design phase, and try, very hard, to convince the people not to wreck the train. But we aren’t always listened to. Its sad.
