So I wrote a post in anger, and deleted it. My apologies.
I have a saying I like to tell people: things that are designed to fail, often do. I run into this day in and day out. Bad cluster designs, bad storage designs, bad network designs. Poor choices in all of the above.
I still can’t get over the two 128 port switches coupled together with a single gigabit uplink. Or the multiple terabytes hidden behind a 50 MB/s bandwidth wall. Or the 32 bit OS used on a 64 bit machine because the admin didn’t trust 64 bit OSes.
I see failures in design, in implementation, etc. I see train wrecks while they are in the design phase, and try, very hard, to convince the people not to wreck the train. But we aren’t always listened to.
